John “Dock” Dockery, Jr., 50, of Morganton, NC went to his Heavenly Home on October, Friday the 13th, 2023, which was only fitting since he was such a horror fanatic. He was born on October 27, 1972 to Mildred Sue Milligan Dockery and the late John Alfred Dockery. Dock was a graduate of Freedom High School. He was a cook at several of our local restaurants. He was an avid musician who went by “Dockstar.” He played in numerous local bands such as Double D Accoustics, Dilemma, Meatlfly and Malicious Mischief and many more. He loved singing and playing the guitar. Dock was an avid Cowboy fan.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Reagan Dockery; sister, Wendy Dockery Lawson (Roland); niece, Grace Lawson; and many cousins and loving friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Catawba Valley Baptist Church. There will be a memorial service for Dock at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

What an awesome man John was. I was his neighbor for a few years. He had a contagious smile and loved his music. Though I haven't seen you in a while, I did think of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this time. May God wrap His almighty arms around them and give them peace and comfort. Show them your hesed (steadfast love). Rest peacefully, my friend. Love and hugs, Marsha Fredell

I'm so glad you are no longer suffering my friend. I'll miss our late night phone calls and ghost hunts. I can't wait until I see you again, even if it's just to hear you roast me one more time. I love you my brother. I always will. Till I see you again, our stories will live on forever!
