Steven “Steve” Lee Schachtschneider, 76, of Morganton, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 16, 2023.

Born in Edgerton, Wisconsin on December 8, 1946, he was the son of Mary Simon Lingo and the late Herbert John Schachtschneider.

Steve was a dedicated employee of Dana Corporation for over 42 years in various roles. When he retired in February of 2015, he was the supervisor of the shipping/receiving department. He started with Dana in Wisconsin and relocated his family in 1978 when he transferred to the Morganton plant. He had a very strong work ethic, and he instilled this ethic in his children.

Steve’s blood ran Green and Gold! He loved to watch any sports, but particularly the Green Bay Packers. He was a fisherman who liked going on charter trips to various places with his closest friends. Steve also enjoyed gambling and made many trips to Cherokee to try his luck on the slots. He may have instilled this in some of his children as well! Another past time Steve enjoyed was cooking and feeding family and friends. He loved to have gatherings at his home, the more the merrier. He was an avid helper of anyone in need, sometimes to his own detriment. However, it did not deter him from continuing to help those less fortunate.

In addition to his mother who is 95 years old, Steve leaves behind a devoted wife of 37 years, Linda Flowers Schachtschneider; children, Stephen Schachtschneider, Trisha Schachtschneider, Tammy Hilliard, James Schachtschneider (Brandi), Tammy Jensen (Yates), Lisa Lange (Chantz); grandchildren, Monica, Dylan, Alisa, Trey, Tate, Logan, Tyler, and Christian; sister, Patti Gullickson (Jim); and sister in law Pam Schachtschneider. Steve considered his grandchildren one of his greatest blessings and bragged on them every chance he got.

Steven was preceded in death by his father and a son, Michael Baldwin; sister, Susan Schachtschneider; brother, Terry Schachtschneider; and grandmothers, Mabel Schachtschneider and Esther Dallman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Marty Bess officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Steve was a good man and true friend. He was honest and would rather give a dollar than to take one that didn’t belong to him. He will be missed by me and many more. RIP my friend.
