Shirley Carol Toney Arney, 80, of Morganton, NC, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025.
Born in Rutherford County, NC on June 12, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Lauren Thomas Toney and Bruney Bell Butler Toney.
Shirley was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church, reading romance novels, writing, and word puzzles. She dearly loved her family and acted as a caregiver for her husband and son until their deaths. Her grandchildren were her world.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Johnny Ray Arney; daughter, Carolyn Arney Lail; granddaughter, Christy Clark, Cody Lamb, and Joseph Davidson; great-grandchildren, Emma Clark, Jessie Clark, and Arabella Arney; and sister, Geraldine Whisnant.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Abraham Arney; and a son, Robert Edward Arney.
Services for Shirley will be private.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
