Shirley Ann Saunders, 84, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC on February 13, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Lee Mull and Virgie Stewart Mull.

Shirley was a lifelong member of Mt. Home Baptist Church and loved her church and church family. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach and her two trips to the Holy Land. Shirley also loved butterflies, hummingbirds, angels, gardening, flowers, flags, people and the companionship of her dog, Priss.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 67 years, James Saunders; sons, Larry (Angel), Colon (Christine), Jeff (Pam), and Mickey (Susanne); step-son, Cody; grandchildren, Grace, Malakai, Ernest, Rosalie, Christopher, Alex, Cassi, Bryan, Anthony, Vanessa, and Nathaniel; and great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Alicia, Jayce, Miller, Charlie, James, Braxton, Brailyn, Andrew, Owen, Abel, Oaklee, and Sophie.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a daughter, Vanessa; son, Kelvin; ten sisters and two brothers; and a grandson, Chris.

Shirley had great faith in the Lord and love for her family and friends. She was loved and will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. David Orders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
