Robert “Mack” Richard Johnson, 68, of Morganton, NC gained his wings April 3rd 2023.

Robert was born on April 30th 1954, in Burke County, NC and was the son of the late Mack Donald Johnson and Cora Lee Dula.

Robert attended Hartland Church of God. He retired from UNC Caldwell as a surgical technician after 24 years. His last two years Robert decided to switch to part time to continue to fulfill his desire to help others and his need to stay busy. Robert was an outdoorsy person and you could often find him working on cars, riding four wheelers with his grandchildren, remodeling the house or doing yard work. When Robert wasn’t working outside, he was sitting in his gazebo that he built himself, he always said he did his best thinking there. He believed "there's no time to sleep, there's always work to-do." Now pops, your work is done, you can finally get your rest. Robert also enjoyed trips to the mountains with his wife. You could find them in Cherokee on any given weekend. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by his son Andre Kincaid and his wife Irene Kincaid Johnson as well as his brother Clifford Johnson.

He is survived by his daughters Shaqueen Kincaid and Robin Johnson, both of Morganton; his loving grandchildren, Jayden Connelly and Jenaya Johnson of Morganton, Kaeden Hairston of Charlotte, Jace Connelly and Christian Williams also of Morganton; his siblings, Roy Lee Dula (Georgia) of Milwaukee, WI, Jimmy Johnson (Ethel) of Lenoir, Marie Johnson of Morganton, Sherry Harvin of Sumter, SC, Rodney E Johnson (Brenda) of Bronx, NY, Billy Ray Johnson of Morganton, Tracy Johnson of Milwaukee, WI, and Cynthia Johnson of Morganton, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Robert loved all his grandchildren but had a special bond with Jayden Connelly who lived in the home and Jenaya Johnson “Naya James” who was his only babygirl. He enjoyed hearing about all of Jace’s football adventures! He will be missed greatly!

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, April 10, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Dr. Reese Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Hartland Church of God Cemetery. A dove release will follow the graveside service.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
