Pearle Poteat Anderson Deaton, 104, of Morganton, NC, passed away Friday, July 24, 2026.
Born in McDowell County, NC on May 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Berlin Poteat and Stella Hill Poteat.
Pearle was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Methodist Women’s Circle and the Glen Alpine Women’s Club. Pearle loved going to church, shopping, going out to eat, and getting her nails done. She was a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, and friend, who was beloved for her kindness, sweetness, and keen sense of humor.
Those left to cherish her memory include her grandchildren, Angie Watts (Charlie), Janie Anderson McMorris, Andy Peters, and Deuce Kirk; sister, Joyce Hilmer (Norman); son-in-law, Larry Kehoe; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family that she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, Pearle was preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Anderson; second husband, Hubert Deaton; third husband, Mel Moore, who had a lasting impact on her life; daughter, Avis Anderson Kehoe; son, Travis Anderson; and siblings, Johnny Poteat (Faye), Clarence Poteat (Weeta), Calvin Poteat (Lil), Jessie Fay Patton (Raymond), Pauline Kiser (Carmie), Dora Sue Crawley (Long), Sarah Margaret Queen (Frank), and Jennie Ree Bost (Charles).
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home and burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Methodist Church at Dry Ponds on Dysartsville Road.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Grace Ridge for the compassionate care shown to Pearle. The family would also like to make a special note of appreciation to Brenda Queen, Pearle’s niece, for all the love, care, and assistance she has provided to Pearle over the last 20 years.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
