Patricia Ann Parnell Harbison, 76, of Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC on August 2, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Fred Parnell and Margaret Hood Parnell.

Patricia was a 1967 graduate of Morganton High School, where she played basketball. She attended Appalachian State University and earned her master’s degree in teaching. She taught in the Burke County Public School System for 36 years.

Patricia was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Junior Woman’s Club, where she met her husband. She enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, golfing with her husband, going to the beach, and tanning in the sun. She will be remembered for her love of sports and the outdoors, attending to her flower beds, gardening every spring and summer, and the love for her pets.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 46 years, Warren Harbison; step-son, Mark Harbison; grandchildren, Caleb Harbison and Nicholas Harbison (Shelby); great-grandson, Waylon Harbison; and canine companion, Sophie.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at First United Methodist Church. A celebration of Patricia’s life will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Dan Hester officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends For Animals - Humane Society Burke County (burkecountyfriends4animals.org).

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Mrs Harbison Was my 4th grade teacher at Chesterfield. She was a wonderful teacher I have many good memories from that class. My husband and I also camped with her at Daniel Boone for many years. A wonderful lady. Prayers for her family.
