Nancy Short Coffey, age 64, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 16th 2023 at her home in Morganton after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Maryland, on August 13th 1958, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Horton Short and Catherine Berros Short.

Nancy was a devoted wife of 39 years. She lived a wonderful and productive life in the service of others. She was an avid gardener with a green thumb. She enjoyed being outside, planting flowers, and sitting in a quiet place drinking her coffee. Nancy loved her family and took every opportunity to spend time with her husband, brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren. She truly cherished every single one of her relationships. Nancy was always full of energy, strong in her faith, and loved doing for others.

While living in Watauga County, she obtained her education in cosmetology and loved being a hair stylist while connecting with her customers. She was a hardworking and devoted business owner of Shear Performance in Boone. After moving to Morganton, she continued her love of cutting hair while being very involved in her children’s lives.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Kevin Bryant Coffey; daughter Natalie Coffey Clark (Benjamin); son Brandon Scott Coffey (Beatrice); daughter Lauren Coffey Morgan (Walton); and grandchildren Anders Clark, Breeden Coffey, Grayson Clark, and Zoe Morgan; brothers Ralph Short (Wendy), Donald Short (Wanda); sisters Cathy Faulkner, Cynthia Miller (Jimmy), Jo Allison Clary (Spencer), Donna Avery (Jack), and Dianne Mowry (Chris). Nancy is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by her father and mother-in-law Robert and Vera Coffey, sister and brother-in-law Mary Ann and Larry Gatchel, brother-in-law Eric Coffey, cousin Nicole Berros, and nephew Luke Short.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 26th, 2023, at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Morganton 502 West Union Street, Morganton North Carolina. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the church.

Kevin and children. We are so very sorry for your loss. We know Nancy battled this for a long time and she was in our prayers nightly. She can rest peacefully now and we will all meet again in heaven. I'm sure she took comfort in knowing this. We didn't know Nancy well, but the few times we met her and her children, all of you were very kind and obvious that your parents did a wonderful job raising you. We send our love, prayers and our condolences to Kevin, family and friends.

I love you Nancy and will miss you so much. You were a wonderful friend and such a joy to be with. You were the the light in every room. I wish I could have seen you one last time to tell you how much you meant to me and how comfortable you always made me feel when I felt nervous or awkward in uncomfortable settings. I would see your beautiful face and feel at ease at once. Our loss is Heaven's gain. I know you are at peace with the Lord now. Nancy and I met in high school where she started doing my hair. We became good friends those first few years. I married in 1982 a boy from Morganton. I would travel back to Boone for her to cut and frost my hair for a year or so. Couldn't believe my luck when when she married Kevin and they moved to Morganton. Nancy was one of the sweetest people I've ever known. She will be missed. I hate we hadn't kept in contact these later years.

We are so very sorry upon learning of Nancy's passing from this life to everlasting life with her Creator and others who have gone before. She cut my hair for several years and I loved being there. Don't think she ever met a stranger. Prayers for God's comfort and peace for all of those whom she loved and love her.
