Nancy Ellen Thomas, 88, passed away, Friday, June 26, 2026. Born on August 14, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Bessie Dale.

Nancy was a loving mother and was always the caregiver of our family. She was always there by our bedside whenever we were sick offering comfort, love and unwavering support. Nancy had the most contagious smile and warm wave that could brighten anyone's day. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome, included and loved. Her joy was truly contagious. We will cherish her home-cooked meals; the beautiful flowers she planted every spring and the warmth she brought wherever she went. Nancy was a constant source of love, strength and encouragement. She will forever be an inspiration to all her knew her.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Thomas Shade (Tim); son, Douglas Thomas (Tammy); sister-in-law, Beth Thomas Rhyne; grandchildren, Alicia Shade Champagne (Chris), Ashley Shade Owens (Joshua), Carrie Shade, Casey Shade, Aspen Thomas, Carmen Brooks, Karri Brooks Deptola (Stephen); great-grandchildren, Sophia Champagne, Desmond Champagne, Morrison Champagne, Every Owens, Emery Owens, Liam Owens, Banner Deptola; special acknowledgement to niece, Tammy Beck Benfield.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Lee Thomas; siblings, Robert "Bob" Dale, Paul "Cotton" Dale, Lou Dale Mode, Sarah Dale Merrill, Margaret Dale Keaton, Linda Gail Beck, and Getty Dale Long.

A graveside service will be held at 3pm, Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Glen Alpine Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Phyllis, Doug and family, I am so very sorry for the loss of aunt Nancy. She was one of the sweetest, most caring and loving person I’ve ever known. I never saw her mad or ever heard her say a negative thing about anyone. I loved aunt Nancy and uncle Phillip. Remembering the great times growing up with my family.
