Leroy Hunt, 64, of Morganton, NC, peacefully transitioned into rest on Saturday, April 25, 2026 while surrounded by his closest loved ones and in the comfort of his home.

Born in Rutherford County, NC on September 12, 1961, he was the son of the late Ray Hunt and Nellie Hull Justice.

Leroy was a man of great character, and his presence will be greatly missed. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, especially to Pigeon Forge and Cherokee. Mr. Hunt also loved spending warm, sunny days at Lake Lure with the love of his life and wife of 37 years, Bonnie. When he wasn’t with his family, you could find him with a fishing pole and tackle box. Leroy also took great pride in tending his yard and enjoyed watching his rose bushes and other planted flowers bloom every spring. Spending quiet, slow mornings on his front porch, taking in the scenery of the mountains around his home, taking in the stillness, and listening to the birds brought him peace. He often had a cup of coffee in one hand and a Louis L’Amour book in the other.

Leroy was a simple man and took great pleasure in the small things in life that many of us tend to ignore. He had an early career at Hairfield Vault Company and spent the last of his working years as a part of Continental. Leroy spoke to everyone he crossed paths with and never met a stranger. He was a wonderful person, man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, and friend. When we look to the sky may we always remember his spirit.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Bonnie Phillips Hunt; sons, Trinity Hunt (Samantha), Caleb Hunt (Ashley), and Jay Hunt; daughter, Sunshine Hunt Babbitt (Howard); grandchildren, Roland, Russell, Kinzie, Michael, Maddie, and Chloe; and brothers, Dale, Jimmy, Harley, Don, Windal, Davie, and Lonnie Hunt.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death a sister, Alice Hunt Tesseneer; and an infant brother, Jerry Hunt.

No services are planned at this time.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dennis and Freida Standish, John and Donita Shatley, Amber and John Ollis, Lisa and Wendel McCurry, and Denise and Randy Clark.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
