Larry Courtney, 80 of Valdese, NC passed away, Saturday, March 22, 2025. Born on May 4, 1944, he was the son of the late Lemuel and Lela Courtney. Larry was a very proud member of Christ United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Imaginehub. He was a jokester who loved to play pranks on people. Larry loved art including drawing and coloring. He volunteered to read at local schools and was a member of the Lions Club. Larry loved his family dearly.

Larry is survived by his daughters, Crystal Rocque (Dana), Charlotte Dillard (Brandon); grandchildren, Andrew and Alexis Rocque; niece, Susan Land (David); and 5 fur grandbabies.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Courtney; brothers, Ned, Bob and Jack Courtney; sister, Alice Payne.

A funeral service will be held at 11am, Friday, March 28, 2025 at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cindy Wechter officiating. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sandys Closet c/o Christ UMC, PO Box 38, Drexel, NC 28619 or Rutherford College Lions Club, PO Box 262, Rutherford College, NC 28671.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
