Johnny Mack Brown, 82, a native of Burke County, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 21, 2025.
Born in Burke County, NC on January 10, 1943, he was the son of the late Horace Alexander Brown, Sr. and Marjorie Mathews Brown.
Johnny was a member of Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Prayer Group. His passion for baseball shone brightly both on the church league field and from his favorite armchair while watching the professionals play. He was a fan of the Duke Blue Devils and enjoyed trips to Hart’s Pond. Johnny dedicated many years of service at Drexel Heritage Plants 3 and 5 before retiring.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Rhonda Brown Duncan (Keith) and Kimberly Renee Brown (Jammie O’Neil); grandchildren, Heather, Jacob, Madison, and Kyden (who was born on Johnny’s 70th birthday); great-grandchildren, Beckham, Brigham, Erabella (Ella Jaye), and Rhett Zayne; sister, Carolyn Brown Powell; brother, Gary K. Brown; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his three brothers, Horace A. Brown, Jr., Harvey “Deucy” Brown, and Tommy Ray Brown.
The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Marty Bess officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
