James “Jimmy” Hawkins, 72, of Morganton, NC, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026.
Born in Lawndale, NC on February 1, 1953, he was the son of the late John Sidney Hawkins and Faye Prewitt Hawkins
Jimmy was a member of Mt. Home Baptist Church. He loved family, his church, and his church family. Mr. Hawkins enjoyed working, fishing, cars, and old hotrods. He also enjoyed cruising through the country, checking out vehicles and finding good spots to eat.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy Banks Hawkins; sons, Josh Hawkins (Nikki) and Brandon Hawkins (Sarah); daughter, Wendy Hawkins Mull (Michael); and grandchildren, Sidney, Zion, Xander, and Sabella.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2026 at Mt. Home Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with Revs. Ethan Cromer and Rocky Hartman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I just saw Jimmy a few weeks ago, and we chatted about being old, etc. I cannot believe he's gone. He was a huge part of the Salem High School class of 1971, and he will be missed. Josh, Wendy and Brandon I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. Kathy please accept my deepest condolences.
Prayers to each of you during this difficult time. Jimmy was a good person, willing to help anyone he could in any way. I know he is walking among the angels today.

I am one of Jimmy's many cousins, I am so sorry to hear of his passing. We went to school together at Salem and worked together at J Iverson Riddle Center. He had a contagious laugh and we had many good times at work. May God comfort you now and in the coming days. Rama Jean and Bruce Franklin
