James C. Brown, 87 of Morganton, NC passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026 after a year of declining health.
James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who worked selflessly to support his family.
James spent most of his time managing rental property he and his wife Sunny Nell Brown acquired over the years.
He was an outstanding baseball and basketball player in high school.
James lived with deep gratitude—for life, for family, and for a Pepsi and a Moonpie
In addition to his wife Sunny, he is survived by his sons Hamilton (Jodi) and John (Eli) grandsons Lucas, John Parker and Mason Brown. His brother Tom Brown (Aloma) and nephew Keith Brown (Jeannine).
James was preceded in death by his parents George Milton and Fannie Elva Brown, brothers Bill and Keith Brown
The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Burke Memorial Park with Pastor Brad Browning officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

My wife and I would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family. I knew Mr. & Mrs. Brown since I was roughly 12-13 years old.
