James Allen Childres, Sr. (AKA “Red” and “Pop”), 77, of Lawndale, NC passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026. He was born on January 20, 1949 in Burke County to the late Douthit Childres and Beulah Carswell Childres. The family moved to a farm in Chesterfield Community. While working on the farm, my dad also ran a small gas station, auction and ceramic business. He loved God, family and fishing. His last job, before early retirement, was working HVAC for his baby brother.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David, Chris and Glen.
He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Childers Arney; son, James Allen Childers, Jr. (Crystal); grandchildren, Abbie Bell (Kevin), Madison Corum, Nataleigh Childers, Taylor-James Childers; former wife, Kathy Clawson.
Per Dad’s request, there will be no services.
If you wish, you can donate to your local Hospice or Testa Family Hospice House, 321 Kings Mountain Blvd., Kings Mountain, NC 28086 in his memory, James A Childres “Pop”.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

A beautiful tribute to your dad! Pops will always be remembered with great fondness. He was a kind man and a good man. He infectious laugh was a wonderful sound to hear everytime I got to see him. Rebecca, I am so sorry for the loss your father. I love that we connected on Facebook through your Paparazzi live shows, seeing your “pops” & you on live was always super fun. Praying that his soul is in eternal peace & with God’s loving presence always. Praying that you get the love & peace and healing that this great loss has brought. His memory will always be and we were all blessed to have crossed his path. One thing death cannot do is destroy the beautiful memories & love that he created with everyone. Rest in peace Sir
