Henry “Butch” Anderson, Jr., passed away at his home on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the age of 80. Butch was proud to have been a lifelong resident of Burke County. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years revealed his courage in facing challenges with a smile.

Butch was born on May 1, 1942 to the late Henry Anderson, Sr. and Myrtle Moss. After graduating from Morganton High School, Butch attended Hargrave Military Academy and East Tennessee State University. Butch enjoyed the challenge of being a local entrepreneur which allowed him many opportunities to build lasting friendships in the community. Butch loved to recount his “glory days” of playing football for Morganton High School. His passion for bass fishing and Carolina Panthers Football was known by all who loved him. The simple pleasures in life brought great joy to him, such as tending to his wildflower garden and reminiscing about old times with friends.

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his sister, Marsha Anderson; and nieces, Laura and Beth (Buffy) Anderson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn Anderson, whom the family wishes to thank for caring for our Dad during his illness; twin daughters, Kate Foster (Paul) of Hickory, NC and Ellen Settlemyer of Morganton, NC; and step-daughter, Ashley Castle (Elijah) of Sanford, NC, (whom Butch loved as if she were his own daughter); and grandchildren, Dalton, Sam, Jack, Celia and Phifer.

Butch will be honored in a Celebration of Life graveside service at 11 a.m., Friday, April 21, 2023 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton. Family will receive friends immediately following the outdoor service.

Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Magnolia Lane Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Morganton for providing such loving care to our dad during his illness.

In addition, our family wishes to express our gratitude to the wonderful staff at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center for assisting us with the funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke United Christian Ministries.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
