Gerline Loflin Sawyer, 87, of Morganton, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Born in Randolph County, NC on September 20, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clay Loflin and Edith Hoover Loflin.

Gerline loved to read her Bible, was a prayer warrior, and attended Word of Life Assembly. No stranger to hard work, she worked on a farm as a child and worked as a beautician until she retired at the age of 78. She enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, baking, painting, yard work, and helping others.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Brian Sawyer (Christine); grandchildren, Brandon Sawyer (Emily), Greyson Sawyer (Harmony), and Bailey Sawyer; great-grandchildren, Hudson, Quinn, Banks, Cooper, Logan, and Maddox; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Sawyer; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, Gerline was preceded in death by her husbands, Marvin Sawyer and Clarence Poteat; son, Keith Sawyer; and sister, Leona Ingram.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Sunday, January 18, 2026 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m.in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Adam Knight and Brother Ray Hightower officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

So sorry to learn of Gerline's passing. We were friends since the early 60's. We enjoyed a lot of good times together over the years. When she came to Asheboro she would call or come by to see me. We kept up with other. A kind and caring lady who will be missed by all who knew her. My sympathy to Brian and all the family.
