Gary Dean Lane, 65, of Morganton, NC, went to his heavenly home Sunday, November 13, 2022.
Born in Burke County, NC on July 24, 1957, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Lane and Mary Dixie Bodford Lane. Gary was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was active in all functions of the church. Gary retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center with 35 years of service. He was active in several Volkswagen clubs, played guitar, and was a talented craftsman. He also painted many cars and license plates.
Gary is survived by his brothers, David Lane and Scott Lane (Carla); and niece, Kelly Lane.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, November 21, 2022 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Gantt and the Rev. Robert Ferguson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 5388 Mt. Olive Church Road, Morganton, NC 28655.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

RIP, I still remember my first care well a VW bug that was Gary's creation it was so sweet. He was a really caring and friendly person, I am pleased to say I knew him.
My deepest condolences to Gary's family. I know you'll miss him dearly. I will also.. We had the privilege to be Gary's friend for many years. So glad we got to make many memories camping with him. Gary was such a kind hearted man, He struggled at times with illness, but he always pushed forward with a smile on his face and a friendly affection towards everyone. I know you and your friends and family are laughing and riding around in that Volkswagen having a good ole time. Crystal Carswell
We had the opportunity to meet Gary in Gray tn at the swap meet. Time spent with him and Ray was always exciting year after year. We will miss him. What a great man.

Keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers, and in support of Gary's brother, Scott, from the members and friends of the Servants of Righteousness chapter (Morganton, NC) of the Christian Motorcyclists Association.
Gary was a gentle giant. I'm so proud he was a recreator. The kids were so blessed with his many talents and kindness. He will be missed in so many ways. Heaven is happy he is there. In fact, Santa's VW bug is needing a tune up. He wants to be in the Centers Christmas parade. Bless you Gary.
Gary was so kind and caring always offering to help anyone in need. He was courageous in his health trials and pushed forward knowing His Lord and Savior was by his side. My late husband Joe and Gary worked together in the Recreation Department at JIRDC and I was also fortunate to work with Gary there. He touched so many lives and left a legacy that want be forgotten. My deepest sympathy for his brothers David & Scott, Carla, and his niece Kelly. May God give you peace and comfort. Mary Catherine Belk
Gary was a sweet person and who loved his niece Kelly as if she was his own.
