Frances Ann McKinney, 83, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025. She was born on January 31, 1941 in Burke County to the late Junior Wilson Crawley and Ruth Watson Crawley. Frances was a lifelong member of Bethel Methodist Church on Dysartsville Road. She retired as Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners after fifteen years of service. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time and cooking for them. Frances had a passion for flowers and delighted in her time running a floral business in Glen Alpine in the 1970’s with her sister-in-law. She also loved volunteering in her community, and camping up at Daniel Boone Campground.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Jack Douglas McKinney; brother, James “Jim” Crawley.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen McKinney Showler (Phil), Cheryl McKinney Franklin (Kirk) and Donna McKinney Fleming; grandchildren, Amanda Mercades (Andrew), Evan Showler (Cheri), Derek Franklin (Paula), Lauren Burns (Chris), Devyn Sankey (Dustin), and Landyn Fleming (Savannah); great-grandchildren, John, Noah, Matthew, Jack, Joshua, Lucian, Toby, Kinley, Drew, and Braylee; sister, Debra Angley (John); sister-in-law, Judy Crawley; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 11am-12noon on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 1:30pm at Bethel Methodist Church on Dysartsville Road with Rev. Donald Farris and Pastor Patrick Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Methodist Church on Dysartsville Rd or First Advent Christian Church.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
