Ed Lowe, 55, of Morganton, NC passed away Friday, May 8, 2026. Born on November 7, 1970, he was the son of Ronny Edward Lowe, Sr. and the late Joyce Kathleen Stewart Lowe. Ed retired from the Belk Corporation after 23 years and worked in many different executive positions. He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. Ed was an ancestry and genealogy guru helping many people find their families, being an excellent researcher along with his father. He loved going to the Outer Banks, to the mountains, and definitely loved nature and the outdoors. He was an avid collector of many things. Ed was also known for his dry, subtle, yet very effective sense of humor.

Nothing was more important to Ed than his family. With a genuine heart and an unwavering work ethic, he lived by the motto “you must never quit” and leaves behind that powerful legacy for all who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mary Jane Osborne and Metta Sillesen.

In addition to his father, Ed is survived by his wife, Carey Lynn Smith Lowe; daughters, Kendra Bausum (Josiah) and Katryna Sloat (Sean); grandchildren, Ryan Moore, Ayden Sloat, Gibson Sloat, Elliette Sloat, and Malachi Sloat; sister, Rebecca James (Aaron); nieces and nephews, Phillip James, Autumn Bentley (Ethan), Lauren James, Dennis James, Jr., Austin James, Brooklyn Bolton and siblings, Courtney Smith (Dyllan) and Katlin Smith. Ed loved his pups, Gracie & Piper.

There will be a Celebration of Ed’s Life at 11 am Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Henry’s Fork River- Morganton NC. The family has asked that if you would like to honor Ed, you could wear UNC blue to the Celebration of Life. **Directions: Go to Friendly Freewill Baptist Church (2563 Old NC 18 Morganton NC), pass it and go 1.6 miles, we will celebrate by the Henry Fork River on the left. Signs will be posted. **
