Betsy Gibbs Lowdermilk, 71, of Morganton, NC, left this earth and entered her heavenly home on Thursday, August 10, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is now at home in the arms of Jesus, free from sickness and pain.

Born in May 25, 1952, she is the daughter of the late Clifford Bennett Gibbs and Mary Etta Causby Gibbs.

Betsy was a member of Glen Alpine Baptist Church and had recently been attending Grace Baptist Church. She set an amazing example of trusting God, as she trusted him through her battle with cancer.

She was an avid gardener and loved being outside. In her younger years, Betsy enjoyed selling items at flea markets, playing softball, and working in floral shops. She enjoyed taking trips to the beach, especially Oak Island. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jon Lowdermilk (Amy); grandsons, Jonathan Lowdermilk (Samantha) and Josh Lowdermilk (fiancée, Codie Downs); great-grandson, Jaxtyn Blaze Lowdermilk; and numerous cousins and extended family.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Grace Baptist Church. The memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the church with Rev. Marty Bess officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sossoman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 2608, Morganton, NC 28680 to assist with expenses.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Salvador and the staff at the cancer center and her hospice nurse, Booke, for the love and care shown to Betsy.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Betsy you will be truly missed by you family and friends. I remember you from the days of Log Cabin where we ran into each other often. Also, we went to school together, you were a couple years ahead of me. I watched you play softball in Morganton, when I wasn't playing. I watched John grow up and when he got old enough you let him go with us to play football on Sunday afternoons. You are now free from all the pain and with God looking down on us. God Bless you.
