Avery Ervin, 85, of Morganton, NC passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024. He was born on January 21, 1938 in Wilkes County to the late JY Ervin and Edith Hemric Ervin. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morganton. Avery retired from the state of NC after 37 years of service and was a recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award. He was very involved with the Democratic Party. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Avery was a Godly man as well as a very trustworthy man.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Carswell Ervin.

He is survived by his son, Chris Ervin (Lisa); daughter, Paige Nance (Jason); grandchildren, Braxton Ervin, Kourtney Ervin, and Brennen Nance; and a number of extended family.

The family will receive friends from 12-2pm on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 2pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Justin Cunningham and Pastor Braxton Ervin officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. Honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the NC Department of Corrections.

In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Amorem Hospice.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
