Zane G. Mitchell Short, 62, of Morganton died Saturday, March 28, 2015 after a period of declining health. Mitchell was born in Morganton, NC on December 10, 1952. He is the son of Zane G. Short and the late Martha May Walker Short. Zane was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Morganton, NC. He graduated from Morganton High School and attended Catawba Community College where he became a Electronic Technician. Zane worked for several different companies, Southern Bell, Time Clock Machines, and Monroe Calculators Office Machines. He also worked with computers, TV's and was a good electrician. Zane was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to camp in the Linville Gorge. Zane was a wonderful son and father.
In addition to his father, Mr. Short is survived by his daughter, Robin Nicole Simoes and her husband, Marcos of Winston-Salem; aunts, Scharleen Blevins of Morganton, Lula Mae Morris, and Thelma Starr of Hickory; uncle, Larry Walker of Morganton; and many cousins and friends.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zero and Cora Hunt Short, Clause and Effie Snipes Walker; aunts, Lesba Ledford, Mary Sue Carpenter, Selma Short, Dovie Revels, Betty Sanford, Louise Branch; and uncles, Charlie, Grier(Joe)Odell Short, Sterling, D.C., and Noah Walker.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2015 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with the Rev. Larry Cline officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
We would like to thank the people of Autumn Care of Drexel for the good care he received while there. We also want to thank all the people of Burke Hospice and Palliative Care for the good care they gave.
