Wilma Judith “Judy” Whisnant King, 87, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

Born in Burke County, NC on April 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Ervin Theodore Whisnant and Era Ellen Gosnell Whisnant.

Mrs. King worked for Henredon Furniture for 25 years, retiring in 2003. Judy had a strong faith in God and was a charter member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church. She taught the Primary Class for many years. Judy was known as an amazing cook and made seven course meals daily. Her signature dishes include Thanksgiving dressing, cornbread, pumpkin rolls, fudge, and pound cake. Judy loved her flower gardens, Sunday dinners with her beloved family, and decorating for Christmas with an abundance of presents under the tree. Her contagious sense of humor will be missed, and her riddles and rhymes brought joy to many lives.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jeff King (Brenda), Tim King (Phyllis), Kenneth King (Shannon), and David King; daughter, Eileen Browning; grandchildren, Brent King (Casey), Jessica White (Brandon), Lacey Brown (Marty), Nathanael King, and Bonnie Browning; great-grandchildren, Cason King, Benson King, Blakely White, Griffin White, and Colton Benfield; along with a number of special nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Benson King; brother, Rex Whisnant; and son-in-law, Wilburn Browning.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2025 in the fellowship hall of Faith Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall with Rev. Rocky Reese officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Grace Heights for the compassionate care shown to Judy over the past 7 years.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Free Will Baptist Church, 1308 Jamestown Road, Morganton, NC 28655.

As Judy often said, “Take it easy greasy, you got a long way to slide.”

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

So sorry for the family's loss. I work with Judy at Henredon furniture. She was the sweetest woman. We would eat together and we had lots of fun just setting and talking and enjoying each other's company. Heaven gained another Angel.

My memory of Judy is when we would gather in the Lab breakroom for Thanksgiving pot-luck. We would all bring a dish, and Judy would fix a turkey for all of us to enjoy. I can see her right now, at the sink and countertop, carving up that turkey. And it was always delicious. What a sweet, caring person she was, even to those who didn’t know her well. RIP, Judy. I will remember your kindness.
