William Ward Taylor, 88, died on September 22, 2011. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on August 10, 1923, he was the son of Lydia Ward Taylor (Springstead) and James Taylor. William served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 – 1945. He graduated from the University of Toronto in 1949 and was employed as a mechanical engineer and retired from Westinghouse Corporation.William was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Carter Taylor.He is survived by his three children and their spouses. James Martin and Catherine Jean Taylor (Stead) of Belwood, Ontario, Canada, Nancy W. Taylor and John W. Ervin, Jr. of Morganton, North Carolina and W. Robert Taylor and Kathy Griendling Taylor of Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was the devoted grandfather of Suzanne Taylor, Daniel Taylor, Julia Taylor, Kelly Cooksey, Michael Taylor, Christopher Taylor, Terry Taylor and Morgan Taylor, and great grandson Alex Cooksey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at the home, 2310 McConnaughey Lane, Morganton, NC 28655 at a later date to be announced.
