William Wallace Digh, Sr.

William Wallace Digh, Sr., 89, of Morganton, passed away peacefully at home Friday, October 20, 2017. Born in Burke County on February 29, 1928, he was the son of the late John Cletus Digh and Nettie Rhoney Digh.
Bill was a member of Burkemont Baptist Church. He was a lifelong furniture worker with Drexel Furniture and Ethan Allen/Knob Creek. He was a founding member of the Salem Ruritan Club with perfect attendance. He loved baseball from a very young age and especially loved the Atlanta Braves. Bill was an avid bowler. He loved to travel with his beloved wife and took several trips abroad making many friends along the way.
A loving husband and father, Bill is survived by his children, Patricia Burnette (Harold) and William Digh, Jr. (Anita); three grandchildren (Lance, Travis, Kristen); seven great-grandchildren (Tyler, Will, Evan, Devyn, Tristan, Avery, Journey); and sister, Margie Moses.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Carswell Digh, brothers, Clarence Digh, Solen Digh, Fonzo Digh, Paul Digh and R. P. Digh; sisters, Azalee Poteat, Beulah Mae Digh, Mable Stewart and Webber Smith; and grandson, Nathan Digh.
The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday, October 23, at Burkemont Baptist Church. A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Reverends Eddy Bunton and David Mills. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Burkemont Baptist pastors, Care Ministry and Burke Hospice & Palliative Care.
