William George Edward Riggs, 76, of Morganton, NC, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Born in Oliver Springs, TN on April 2, 1949, he was the son of the late William Leon Riggs and Sarah Morgan Riggs. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a grandson, Micah Riggs; sister, Alma Stevens; and brothers, Darryl and Ralph Riggs.
William was a preacher who loved to preach and was a member of Hartland Missionary Church. He worked as a machinist for the Toners for many years. Though he only had one hand, he was a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed shooting. He also enjoyed working on cars, visiting pawn shops, and was an avid fan of the Tennessee Vols.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Winter “Carolyn” Riggs; children, Stacy Suttles, Ashley Riggs, Jonathan Riggs, Lisa Brown, Joe Riggs, and Jackie Riggs; grandchildren, Rebekah Cunningham, Gabriel Cunningham, Nathan Clark, Elijah Tillery, Dante Tillery, Hayden Rector, Trever Rogers, Noah Rogers, Isaac Suttles, Caleb Suttles, Connor Riggs, and Charli Riggs; 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy Mullis, Fred Riggs, Harold Riggs, and Frances Noe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Hartland Missionary Church. The memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in the church with Rev. Danny Carr officiating.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
