William Dale Herron

William Dale Herron, 89, of Glen Alpine, NC, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Born in Burke County, NC on June 2, 1933, he was the son of the late William J. Herron and Juanita Dale Herron.  Dale was a veteran of the US Army and retired from the City of Morganton after 42 years of service with the electrical department.  He was a talented high school athlete and starred in football, baseball, and basketball.  Mr. Herron was inducted into the Glen Alpine Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.  He officiated high school football for over 40 years and enjoyed being outdoors.

A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Herron is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Greer Herron; daughters, Karen Stiles (Greg) and Daleleen Fisher (Buddy); sons, Kevin Herron (Becky) and Rodney Herron (Tammy); seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by brothers, Howard Pritchard, Gene Pritchard, and J.C. Herron; and sisters, Betty Rose Duckworth and Helen Causby.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2022 at Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery with Rev. Cris Uren officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the NC National Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church Building Fund.
