William (Bud) Whisnant, 95, of Morganton, NC passed away February 18, 2022. Born in Burke County to the late Ernest (Humdinger) Whisnant and Mary Sue Cope Whisnant. Bud was a member of the greatest generation serving in the US Navy during WWII. He worked for Duke Power for 34 years as a Lineman. Bud was an avid gardener and passionate hunter known for his beagle dogs which he loved dearly.

Bud is survived by two sons, Garry Whisnant, of Asheville, Dennis Whisnant (Lisa), of Morganton; daughter-in-law, Deborah Whisnant, of Morganton; grandchildren, Eric Whisnant, Jennifer Church and Heath Whisnant, and a number of great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his sisters, Gertrude Clontz, Sadie Whisnant and Elizabeth Norville; brothers, David, Winfred and Gene Whisnant.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Morrison Whisnant, one son, Rickey Lee Whisnant; brothers, Bona, Jim and Richard Whisnant. Also, preceded in death by his sisters, Gladys Allman, Lucille Allman and Francis Stamey.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Monday, February 21, 2022 at Sossoman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park with military honors will be provided by the US Navy. The family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Memorial Baptist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
