William “Bill” Jones

William “Bill” Jones, 85 of Morganton, NC died at Hospice House in Hudson, Caldwell County, Tuesday March 8, 2022. Born in Morganton, NC on August 14, 1936, as an only child to the late Howard and Louise Hallyburton Jones. Bill was a lifelong resident of Morganton and went to UNC Chapel Hill with an internship as a pharmacist. Bill later opened up his own drug store, Jones Drug Store in Morganton, NC, where he and his family have been in operation for more than 30 years. Some of Bill’s most endearing traits were his love for playing tennis and golf with his friends. When he would not have a good day of playing, that would call for buying a new racket in hopes of helping his next play. Bill was a US Army Veteran (1954-1956) serving most of his time in Germany.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Kay Breitenbach Jones; son, James “Jay” Jones.

Bill is survived by his caregiver and wife of two years, Barbara Lipe Jones; children, William Ted Jones, Tom Jones, David Jones (Ginger); grandchildren, Daniel Jones, Drew Wittenburg, Morgan Jones, Spencer Jones, and Savannah Jones.

Due to the pandemic virus, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
