Wiley Benjamin (Ben) Morrison, 76, of Mt. Olive Church Road, Morganton, NC passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Asheville following an extended illness. He was born on March 22, 1929 in Burke County and was a son of the late Gus and Essie Neill Morrison. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Morrison Rayfield and by a sister, Faye Morrison McKinney. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. As a faithful member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday School director, and teacher. He was a plumber and retired from Swanson Plumbing.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Frances Duckworth Morrison, of the home; a daughter, Gayle Morrison Rostan, of Hickory; grandchildren, Amanda Houk and Lindsay Rayfield both of Morganton, Benjamin, Sara, Andrew, and Hannah Rostan, all of Hickory; and a great-grandson, Tyler, of Morganton. Also surviving are his brother, Neill Morrison; his mother-in-law, Irene Duckworth; a son-in-law, Terry Rayfield; brother-in-law, Ray Duckworth; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2005 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Reverends Robert Ferguson and Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 5388 Mt. Olive Church Rd., Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
