Wilbert "Wimp" Carswell, 78, of Case St., Morganton died Saturday, February 23, 2008, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born in Burke County on May 13, 1929 and was a son of the late Beulah Festus Carswell and Annie Lou Orders Carswell. Mr. Carswell was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Great Lakes Carbon after 44 years of service. He was a member of Calvin Heights Baptist Church.Surviving are his wife, Joanne Cline Carswell, of the home; his son, Jeff Carswell and his wife, Janet; his daughter, Sandy Lonon and her husband, Rodger; his granddaughters, Kristen Lonon, Kaitlin Carswell, and Keri Jo Carswell; his great-grandson, Tre Carver; and his sisters, Nancy Lambert and Ailene Lowdermilk, all of Morganton.A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2008, at Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Donald Lovelace officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. Monday at Sossoman Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
