Wesley Pink “Freddie” Cox, 99, of Morganton, NC died Friday, June 3, 2016.  Born in Burke County, NC on March 11, 1917, he was the son of the late Pinkney Henderson and Julie Cox.  Freddie was a member of Zion Baptist Church.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was considered to be one of the top timber men in the country.

Mr. Cox is survived by his nieces, Earline Cox of Morganton, Frances Othella Edward of Morganton, and Elizabeth Belton and her husband, Lawrence, of Charlotte, NC; nephews, Dr. Earnest Harrison and his wife, Karen, of Detroit, MI, Milton Harrison (deceased) and his wife, Geraldine of Scotsdale, AZ, and William Hodge and his wife, Venora, of Maryland; a number of other nieces and nephews; his adopted son, Charles Ramsey of Morganton; a very close friend, Dennis Keller of Morganton; and a close friend, Carolyn Carswell.

In addition to his parents, Freddie was preceded in death by his wife, Emilie Lucille Happoldt Cox; and a number of brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m., Monday, June 6, 2016 at Zion Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at the church with Dr. Ralph May, the Rev. Keith Rose, and the Rev. Stephen Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in Cox Cemetery.
