Wayne Pollard, 88, of Glen Alpine, NC died Monday, July 15, 2013. Born in Burke County, NC on February 17, 1925, he was the son of the late John Andrew Pollard and Clara Garrison Pollard. He was also known as K.W., K. Wayne, and Mayor Pollard, and his grandchildren knew him as PawPaw. Wayne was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and a member of First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine. Wayne had served his church as a Sunday school superintendant, Sunday school teacher, deacon, deacon chairman, RA leader, and in many other capacities. He had served on the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. Wayne also served the town of Glen Alpine for over 40 years; he served as mayor, a councilman, on the Selective Service Board, a charter member of the Glen Alpine Recreation Foundation, Glen Alpine American Legion Post, and he retired from the Glen Alpine Fire Department. Wayne worked in construction and maintenance until finally retiring from Western Piedmont Community College as superintendant of buildings and grounds. Wayne loved his Lord, his country, and his family. He will be missed at family vacations, family reunions, and any church dinners.Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Pitts Pollard of the home; children, Reid Pollard and his wife, Jan, of Lexington, NC and Sherrie Reid and her husband, Phil, of Shelby, NC; grandchildren, Laura Payne and her husband, Adam, of Asheboro, NC, Brittany Reid of Shelby, and Landon Reid of Shelby; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Everette, Ralph, Hicks, and Clyde Pollard; three sisters, Pauline Perry, Clarine Pollard, and Louise Causby; a half-brother, Dewey Pollard; and a half-sister, Ethel Rains.The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Glen Alpine with the Rev. Todd Leger officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center where the body will remain until placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the funeral.Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
