Wayne Houston, 72, of Morganton, NC, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 17, 1951 in Burke County to the late Cecil Bennick Houston and Geneva Conley Houston. He attended the First Baptist Church of Morganton. Wayne had worked at Drexel Heritage and at Thomasville Furniture. He loved the mountains, going hiking, and also his view of Table Rock. Wayne loved his family and especially his grandchildren dearly. He also loved his cat, Sammy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Houston Clark.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Vicki Browning Houston; children, Amanda Stanwood (Jay), Zachary Houston (Megan) and Grant Houston; grandchildren, Henry Stanwood, Zander and Maddox Houston; sister-in-law, Sylvia B. Lingafelt; brother, Bennick “Ben” Houston (Rhonda); several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-3pm on Wednesday July 26, 2023 at Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center. A memorial service will begin at 3pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Bland Jr. officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
