Wanda Louise Brewer Norman, 77 of Morganton, NC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 after a brief period of declining health.

Born in Burke County on January 23rd of 1948 Wanda was the daughter of the late Lester Joseph Brewer and the late Evelyn Grayson Brewer. Wanda was a faithful member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Wanda retired from Burke County Public Schools having worked in the cafeteria at Oak Hill Elementary for many years.

Ever the optimist, her glass was never half empty. She gave thanks to God always in the good times as well as the bad. Whether on the most beautiful mountain top of life or the darkest valley she trusted the Lord and her faith never faltered.

Wanda will always be remembered for her calm demeanor and unlimited love for her family. Of the many things that Wanda enjoyed was the beautiful things in nature such as all different types of birds, her pretty flowers, and unique sunsets. Always happy to talk and laugh with her family as they reminisced about years gone by, her smile and laugh will be sorely missed until one day we are reunited with our sweet “Wannie” someday in Heaven.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law Arthur “Ott” Norman and brother-in-law Richard Walker, both of Morganton.

Wanda is survived by her high school sweetheart and faithful husband of 57 years, Gilbert Norman, whom she adored; and two sons, Steven Norman and wife, Gina, and Jeff Norman and wife, Melanie. Both Steve and Jeff would agree that there has never been a better mother to two boys than their mama. Wanda is also survived by grandchildren, Hannah Davis (Adam) of Morganton, and Heath and Alysa Norman of Greenville SC; two great grandchildren, Madi and Olivia Davis; and sisters, Becky Walker of Morganton and Christine Patton (Kenneth) of Hildebran.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, October 9th, 2025 at Sossoman Funeral Home in Morganton. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Revs. Rocky Reese and Ralph Shuffler officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Alpine Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The closest I ever came to walking along side of Christ. She was a true living example of what the Lord expects us to be. My years working with Wanda at OHES cafeteria she made a difference in the way I seen myself and honestly helped me draw closer to the Lord. She once said “ sometimes I feel I have no testimony” when I would share with her personal things about my life. I felt so unworthy but she would turn it around to say “what a testimony you have, now you use that to lead others to the Lord.” There are no words to measure or to describe her goodness. But I feel so blessed to have had those years of memories and her words of spiritual wisdom that I will forever hold in my heart. You kneel honorably Precious Wanda at the throne of your Lord and Savior as He speaks those words that I knew someday you would hear “well done good and faithful servant….

I worked with Wanda at Oak Hill Elementary Cafeteria. Wanda had a sweet humble spirit and always had a kind word for everyone whom she came in contact with. In this life, if you’re blessed, there are a handful of people who you cross paths with that will impact you in a positive and meaningful way ; Wanda was one of those people to me. She loved God, and she loved her family, and spoke of them often. Wanda modeled for me what a true disciple of Jesus is. Prayers for the family as Wanda transitions to her heavenly home. 🙏
