Wanda Brackett Stamey, 79, of Morganton, NC was called home to be with our Lord Monday, May 29, 2023.

Born April 4, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Clarence William Buckner and Minnie Reese Buckner.

Wanda was an active member of Catawba Valley Baptist Church and participated in bake sales. She was also a member of First Broad Baptist Church for many years where she taught Sunday school and helped with children’s group. She was awarded an Associate’s Degree in Cosmetology and loved her work doing hair, makeup, and nails for many years. In her later years, she was employed as a caregiver to many home bound patients. She found this work rewarding and loved them as family. She was a talented baker, an excellent cook, and a gifted seamstress. Wanda was a Girl Scout leader, even making her sons “honorary Girl Scouts.” Mrs. Stamey loved vacationing at the beach. She was a selfless, amazing woman, and her family was her life.

Wanda is survived by her children, Lynn Bumgarner (Mike), Scott Brackett (Claudia), Tad Brackett, and Misty Palmeri (Gary); step-children, Todd Stamey, Kelly Stamey (Marilyn), and Jason Stamey (Lori); 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Buckner Ollis (Joe); brother, Michael Buckner (Joyce); and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Stamey; first husband, Larry Brackett; grandson, Kevin Brackett; and sister, Barbara Bishop.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Catawba Valley Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with Revs. Rocky Reese and Reese Palmeri officiating. The graveside service will follow at 4:30 p.m. at First Broad Baptist Church Cemetery with Revs. Kevin Towery and Adam Vickers officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catawba Valley Baptist Church.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Wanda was a wonderful lady who loved her husband's and her children with all her heart ❤️. She was kind and thoughtful and caring! I thought more of her as my sister instead of my cousin. I will miss her smile, but not for long; I hope to see her in the resurrection, because she loved her LORD. May she rest in peace until Jesus calls her name.

To the family of Wanda. What a shock it was about her passing. I worked with her, she was a hard worker, loved her family, LOVED HER LORD. Worked in church, baked and I could go on, but if you knew her you know what I talking about. Wanda will be missed by MANY and never forgotten... The wonderful children, grandchildren, you have all the memories that NO ONE may take away from you.. May God be with each of you during this time and the days, weeks and months ahead... With Love
