Wade Harlin Powell, Sr., 91, of Morganton went to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 5, 2018.  Born in Avery County, NC in September 10, 1926, he was the son of the late Arthur and Maude Powell.  He was the oldest member of The Rising Church.  Wade performed sheet-rock work, was a logger, and owned and operated Mack Exxon.  He loved the Lord with all his heart and led many to Christ.  He was inspiration to many and was a quiet, gentle man.

Wade is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Johnson (Wayne) of Morganton, Janet Branch (Tony) of Glen Alpine, and Robin Powell of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Phyllis Powell; grandchildren, Donald “Pete” Peach, Jr., Todd Peach, Shanda Johnson, Charles Powell, Danny Powell, Denise Hayes, Starla Hoke, and Lamar Fleming; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and step-children, Randy Norman, Janee, and Audrey.

In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Powell; second wife, Margaret Powell; son, Wade H. Powell, Jr.; grandson, Wade H. Powell, III; brothers, Paul and Joe Powell; sisters, Ruby Hoilman and Virginia Heffinger; and an infant sister.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2018 at The Rising Church.  The funeral will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the church with Bishop Barry Camp and Pastor Johnny Powell officiating.  Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
