W. Joe Carswell, 79, of Morganton went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.
Born in Burke County, NC on July 29, 1939, he was the son of the late Robert S. Carswell and Nancy Jane Carswell. He was a deacon and founding member of Friendly Freewill Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family dearly. Joe retired from Henredon with over 30 years of service. He then went on to own and operate Joe’s Small Engine Repair. He loved to do anything outside and was a huge NASCAR fan. He most enjoyed fixing things and made sure he instilled his work ethic into his family.
Joe is survived by his wife, Anna Browning Carswell of the home; children, Frances Carswell Curtis (Ronnie), Randy Joe Carswell (Teresa Ann), Connie Carswell Mitchem, and David Greene; grandchildren, Kimberly Curtis, Neil Curtis, Scott Carswell, and Brooke Greene; number nieces, nephews, and other extended family; and his canine companion, Shorty.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Carswell was preceded in death by his brothers, Roy, Jesse, Ed, and Sherrill Carswell; sisters, Daisy Carswell Proctor and Marie Carswell Buchanan; and son-in-law, Buddy Mitchem.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Friendly Freewill Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Paul Grindstaff officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
