W. H. “Bill” Lachot, Jr., 90, of Morganton, NC, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023.

Born in Catawba County, NC on January 14, 1933, he is the son of the late Willis Henry Lachot and Lula Treat Chapman Lachot.

Bill was an active member of First Baptist Church. He was a former chairman of the board of trustees for the church, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. Along with his second wife, Carol, he participated in missions to Poland, Romania, and Ukraine.

Bill served two terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives. He also owned and operated First Insurance Agency, and he later became a partner in First Brockland Insurance.

Bill is survived by his sons, Wesley D. Lachot (Lisa), Donald A. Lachot, and Perry H. Lachot; daughters, Anne M. Lachot and Carol Lynn L. Dosh (Andrew); step-children, Kenneth Corn (Catharine), Phillip Corn, and Sharon Gootman; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Denise Corn; and sister, Gay Brangle.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Rowena G. Lachot; second wife, Carolyn D. Lachot; step-sons, Barry and Robert Corn; and sister, Sue Banner.

The family will receive friends from 2pm until 3pm, Sunday, January 14, 2023 at First Baptist Church Morganton. The funeral will be held in the church at 3pm, with the Dr. Thomas A. Bland Jr. officiating.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
