Vivian Wingate Croft of Glen Alpine passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 after a brief illness. She was born on August 12, 1939 in Augusta Georgia to Earnest Luther Wingate and Inis Wilson Wingate. She was the only girl of 5 children. After the birth of her own children, she became a Registered Nurse and took great pride in her profession. Vivian was witty and opinionated with an adventurous spirit that took her around the world. She was the life of the party and loved good music, dancing and good spirits.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James Croft, her parents; brothers Ben and Victor Wingate as well as nephew Douglas Wingate Jr and beloved niece Lisa Wingate Zapata.

Surviving family members include daughter, Leslie Brown (Julie Everidge) of Clemmons; son, David Brown Jr (Jenny Brown) of Morganton; grandchildren Elizabeth, Alex, Lilly, Zach and Alli; Dr. John Wingate, Col Douglas Wingate and special niece Stacy Wingate. Vivian is also survived by numerous other family members and many friends-including lifelong friends Brenda Furman and Barbara Oliver.

The family is planning a private memorial service to be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to The American Diabetes Association or Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.

I met Vivian many years ago and always thought she was the nicest person- always had a sparkling personality! Such an attractive woman too. She will be missed. Condolences to her family.
