Virginia Q. Morgan, 96, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at College Pines Nursing Home in Valdese. Mrs. Morgan was born March 25, 1915 in Burke County to the late J. Gordon Queen and Fanny Shuping Queen. A devout Christian, she was a faithful and longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Morganton. Mrs. Morgan was well-known for her good nature and wonderful sense of humor.In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Frances Queen Clarke and a brother, Captain Gordon B. Queen, a casualty of World War II.A loving mother, Virginia is survived by a daughter, Carole Knowles and her husband, Bill W. Knowles of Sanford, NC; son, Andy Morgan of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Michael Knowles and wife, Susan of Columbia, SC, Gaye Thornbury of Cary, NC; and Robert Knowles and wife, Katharine of Raleigh, NC; four great-grandchildren; sister, Bessie Q. Olson of Anoka, Minnesota; two nephews and one niece.A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr. officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Drawer 459, Morganton, NC 28680. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
