Virginia Pritchard Engle

Virginia Pritchard Engle, 86, of Moose Lodge St., Morganton departed her earthly home and entered her heavenly mansion on Sunday, June 12, 2016. Born in Burke County on March 22, 1930, she was the tenth of fourteen children of the late Harrison and Esther Bean Pritchard. She was a lifetime member and last surviving charter member of Riverside Baptist Church. For many years, Virginia worked at Morganton Full Fashion Hosiery Mill. Upon leaving that employment, she cared for children for many years. She was much sought after for her child care services and it was not unusual to see her and her husband bring the children to church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, James Richard Engle; a son, Harold Lee Engle; a grandson, John Richard Engle; twin great grandsons, Christopher and Anthony Ramsey; brothers, Leonard, Ben, Harrison, Warren, and Howard Pritchard; and sisters, Mrs. Carl (Pauline) Robinson, Mrs. Charlie (Vonnie) Michaels, Mrs. William (Betty) Norman, and Mrs. Lee Obie (Catherine) Crawley.

Surviving to cherish Virginia’s memory are her son, James Robert Engle of Morganton; her last sibling and dearly loved sister, Mrs. Harrison (Martha) Orders of Glen Alpine; grandchildren, Mrs. Nicole Engle Ramsey of Old Fort, NC and Andy L. Engle of Atlanta; a former daughter-in-law, Brenda Wellborn and her daughter, Taylor Wellborn of Valdese; twin great granddaughters, Stephanie and Kellie Ramsey and great grandsons, Michael Ramsey and Kyle Wheelon all of Old Fort; a great host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and a special great great great niece, Miss Millie Ford.

Mrs. Engle’s family will receive friends 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Riverside Baptist Church. The funeral will follow in the church at 3:00 p.m with the Rev. Burl Sain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Riverside Baptist Church, 516 NC 126, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
