Virginia ?Lucille? Levan Brittain entered the Kingdom of Glory on October 30, 2011 at Valdese General Hospital following a short battle with lymphoma. She was born on August 14, 1925 in Iredell County and was a daughter of the late Ralph W. and Stella Martin Levan. Lucille was also preceded in death by her husband, Phifer Hamilton Brittain, Sr.; brothers, little Tom, Rev. Wayne, Craig, Troy, and Halbert Levan; and by sister, Betty Levan Johnson.Lucille was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church and was dedicated to her faith, family, friends, and community. As a former employee of Pineburr Hoisery, Lucille remained life-time friends with a group she worked with there. In the late 1950?s she became a licensed cosmetologist and began a new career with Melvin Digh at Modern Barber and Beauty Shop in Morganton. Lucille went on to manage the hair department at Western Carolina Center. She also became a registered health care technician, gave wonderful care to many people in Morganton and Valdese, and served for many years as a HCT in admissions at Broughton Hospital. She loved giving and caring for others. In 1962 Lucille opened her own beauty shop, Lucille?s Beauty Shop, where she united with many old friends and has remained and friends with them and her many customers. She was a dedicated and hard worker her entire life, and she grew up in a loving family who were taught Gospel music by her father. Her family blessed many people with their performances.Surviving are her children, Judi Diana Goare, Martin Lang ?Marty? Brittain and wife, Jennifer, all of Valdese, and Phifer Hamilton ?Tony? Brittain, Jr. and wife, Jennie, of Drexel; grandchildren, Dawn Cline Deal and husband, Lee, of Newton, Crystal Cline Sigmon of Valdese, and Douglas Cline and wife, Amanda, of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Sydney Deal McIntosh and husband, Joe, of Conover, Kaitlyn Deal of Newton, Brooke Wilner of Valdese, and Emery and Kennedy Cline of Raleigh; and by brothers, Wade, Ira Lee, Clifford, and Buddy Levan all of Statesville.The funeral will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center with Reverends Donald Smith and John Coffey officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, 4744 Lakeview Acres Road, Valdese, NC 29690.
