Virginia “Jenny” Galloway Pitts, 95, passed away peacefully and entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at The Berkeley after a period of declining health.  Jenny, as she was affectionately known by friends and family was born March 16, 1924 in Norfolk County, Portsmouth, Virginia.  She was the daughter of the late John P. and Addie Saulmon Galloway of the Oak Hill community.  Jenny was a graduate of the old Morganton High School and was employed for forty-four years at the Holiday Laundry, Inc. where she worked in the business office. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with friends, family, her church, traveling and reading.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest W. Pitts, with whom she was married to for over sixty-one years; a son, Kenneth W. Pitts; a sister, Louise Galloway Peeler; and a brother, John P. Galloway Jr.  She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother,

great-grandmother, friend and church member.

Jenny was an active and faithful member of the Glen Alpine United Methodist Church; choir member; United Methodist Women; and participated in many other programs.

She is survived by a son, Mark S. Pitts and wife. Cindi. of Glen Alpine; daughter-in-law. Beth Pitts of Huntersville, NC; grandchildren Dr. Virginia E. Pitts of Huntersville, NC and Matthew W. Pitts and wife, Amy, of Kernersville, NC; great-grandchildren Michael and Nathan Pitts; sisters Ann Lewis and husband. Jess. of Colonial Heights, Virginia; sister-in-law. Bess Galloway of Eden, NC, Laura Rhodes and husband. Robert. of Morganton; brother Bill Galloway and wife. Dean. of the Oak Hill community; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends at Sossoman Funeral Home on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 5 to 7 p.m. with services at Glen Alpine United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Barbara Boyd Mayo officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
