Virginia Cleo Rector Hamby

Virginia Cleo Rector Hamby, 86, of Jonas Ridge, NC died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Jonas Ridge Adult Care following a period of declining health. Born December 10, 1924 in Burke County, NC, she was a daughter of the late William Anderson and Minnie Ogle Rector. Cleo was a member of High Peak Baptist Church.She is survived by a sister, Irene Abernathy and husband, Robert, and a brother-in-law, Jim Hamby, all of Valdese; a sister-in-law, Betty Holder of Lenoir; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Allen Hamby; six brothers and four sisters.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2011 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center with Rev. Lonnie Wayne Barns officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
