Viola Epley Carswell

Viola Epley Carswell, 93, of Morganton went to the loving arms of Jesus December 24, 2007. Born in Burke County on December 13, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Harriet Epley Gurley and William Harrison Epley. She was a loving wife, sister, and aunt. Viola dearly loved all and she was dearly loved by all she came into contact with. She was a member of Carswell Memorial Baptist Church and retired from Broughton Hospital after 35 years of service.Viola is survived by a brother, John Gurley, of Drexel, NC and a number of nieces and nephews including Harriet Norman with whom she made her home until 2005.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Carswell; her step-father, Charlie Gurley; sisters, Rosetta Yount and Mary Radar Epley; and brothers, Fred Epley, Ira Epley, Floyd Epley, Jason Gurley, and Charles Lindburg Gurley.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2007, at Carswell Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverends James Green and Donald Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church. At other times the family will be at the residence of Harriet Norman, 5620 Tommy Norman Ave., Morganton.
