Vernon Stroupe, 78, of Morganton died Sunday, May 23, 2021. Born in Burke County, NC on September 25, 1942, he was the son of the late Gerald Glenn Stroupe and Katie Elisabeth Johnson Stroupe. Vernon was a loving, hard-working, Christian man. He was a member of North Morganton Baptist Church where he served as a chairman of the deacons, Sunday school director, and a member of the choir.
Mr. Stroupe is survived by his wife, Judy Abee Stroupe; daughters, Maria Young and Lisa Braswell (Steve); grandchildren; Nicki Braswell, Deni Smith (Brandon), Carrie Bailey (Josh), Emily Young (Alex), and Katelyn Braswell; nine great-grandchildren; and his special caregiver, Stacey Smith.
In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brianna Stamey; and siblings, Carmie Stroupe, James Stroupe, and Jerri Cole.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at North Morganton Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with the Revs. Kenneth Baker and Jerry Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Burke Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to North Morganton Baptist Church or to Mt. Home Baptist Church.
