Vernon Kincaid "Uncle Vern", 71, of Morganton went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 following a period of declining health. He was born in Burke County on March 11, 1943 and was a son of the late Redgie and Fannie Mae Corpening Kincaid. Mr. Kincaid was a member of Hartland Church of God and a veteran of the U. S. Army. In 1997 he retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center after 32 years of employment as a patient advocate. After retirement he continued to fulfill his desire to care for others by working part-time at ComServ Group Home. He enjoyed traveling, walking, playing basketball, and exercising to stay in shape. Uncle Vern was a loving, caring father-figure to many nieces and nephews.

He is survived by a brother, Rev. Eugene Kincaid; nieces, Teresa Kincaid and Irene Johnson; nephew, Reginald Kincaid; great niece and nephew, Robin Johnson and Andre Kincaid; a special great-niece, Shaqueen Kincaid, all of Morganton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by siblings, Spencer Kincaid, Robert Kincaid, and Zelma Kincaid all of New York; Mildred Wakefield, Ralph Kincaid, Earline Pearson, Mattie Kincaid, and Zula Pearson, all of Morganton; and Josephine Dula of Lenoir.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at Hartland Church of God with the Rev. Faye Miller and the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
