Vance Edward "Cookie" Cooke, 82, of Bear Wallow Bend in Morganton died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at his residence following a period of declining health. He was born November 29, 1925 in Burke County, NC and was a son of the late Jerry Lee Cooke and Annie Mae Carpenter Cooke. Vance served in the US Army during World War II, and was a retired employee of Leviton.He is survived by his former wife, Dorothy Cooke of Morganton; a son, Alan Edward Cooke and his wife, Eva, of Morganton; daughters, Elizabeth Brown of Orlando, FL, and Yvonne Wolgamott of Bitely, MI; a sister, Louise Ivy of Florida; eight grandchildren; many, many loving great-grandchildren; and his favorite niece, Bobbi Cooke Holleman.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Lee Cooke, Jr., Russ Cooke, Did Cooke, and Johnny Cooke; and a sister, Nell Cooke Deal.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Steve Chapman officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Valdese American Legion Post #234. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
